Tongji’s Resource-efficient Campus Construction Was Reported in Nature

In the latest issue ofNaturemagazine published on September 10th, an article titledHow green is your campusgave a round-up report about the efforts the universities across the globe had made ongreen campusconstruction. As the only one among Asian universities, Tongji’s resource-efficient campus construction was introduced.

This article focused on Harvard’s and Emory University’s explorations and practices in their sustainable development campus constructions, and introduced the relevant information about universities in China, Spain, Britain and some other countries. It was mentioned in this article that, six universities including Tongji from China joined the UN Environment Action Programme Union recently. The article quoted Tongji’s Vice-President Chen Xiaolong’s words. Tongji attached importance to the introduction of energy-saving projects during building modification and new projects implementation process. In 2006, the university saved 10 million KWh electricity and reduced 9200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. In 2008, real time supervise systems were built to monitor the building energy consumption in 300 buildings of all four Tongji campuses.
