Fuel Cell-Powered Sedan Run in US, Test Drove by Schwarzenegger

July 05, 2009

After successful completion of the demonstrative running mission on Beijing Olympics, 16 of the 20 hydrogen fuel cell-powered Passat Lingyu, domestically researched and produced, went to America and began six-month road testing and demonstrative running service in California. An activity, which displayed the sedans to media and provided test-driving to the public, titled Lingyu Fuel Cell-Powered Sedan Day, was held recently in California. Schwarzenegger, California governor, drove a fuel cell-powered sedan personally and made a speech to express his appreciation to Shanghai, China’s contribution for energy resources and environment.

These fuel cell-powered sedans could run at their top speed of 150 miles per hour, and cover up to 300 miles after one Hydrogen charging. They had running for 70days and covered 80 thousand miles in Olympics and Paralympics. Principals of Tongji Fuel Cell Vehicle Engineering Center expressed that this was the first time for China’s fuel cell vehicles to participate international demonstrative running and to compete with worldly famous brand autos in one race. This was a though test for China’s level of research and development of fuel cell autos.
