After two years’ construction, theKnowledge-BasedEconomic Circlearound Tongji Universityupgraded to a specialty industrial base of National Torch Plan. On April 18th, theSpecialty Industrial Base of Research and Development Design around Tongjiwas inaugurated, being the first domestic specialty industrial base characterized by modern service industry at present. Wan Gang, Vice-Chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee and Minister of Science and Technology and Shen Xiaoming, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai addressed at the inauguration ceremony respectively.
The Knowledge-BasedEconomic Circlearound Tongji University was started from 2002, and developed into an industrial chain gradually including graphic design and production, construction model manufacture, decoration and design consultancy. In June 2007, Tongji University and Yangpu District began the construction of Knowledge-BasedEconomic Circlearound Tongji University officially as well as the exploration and practice of linkage of university campus, scientific and technological park and urban community. Enterprises in the district assembled from the original 100 to nearly 1000 presently with the gross output worthing 102 hundred million yuan in 2008. On January 2009, National Ministry of Science and Technology approved makingSpecialty Industrial Base of Research and Development Design around Tongjias a National Torch Plan project.
It was learned that the base would use industrial clustering effect of Tongji’s key disciplines and the distinct development pattern of 3 main industries cluster of new energy, new material and environmental technology. In 2015, the base would try to realize the aim of laboring annual gross output up to 300 hundred million yuan.
