On the afternoon of March 6th, the university Vice-President Dong Qi met Neil Odent, the newly-appointed Secretary General ofInternationalSeabed Authority accompanied by Jin Jiangcai, Director of China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and DevelopmentAssociation(COMRA). Academician Wang Pinxian and Prof. Zhou Huaiyang fromCollegeof Ocean and Earth Science were also present at the meeting.
Dong Qi introduced the historical development, disciplinary construction, campus development, international exchange and cooperation of our university, especially the aid programs for Africa we participated or undertook these years. In the meantime, Dong hoped to establish official cooperative relationship with ISA and make Tongji ISA’s training base in China so as to promote the popularization and transmission of ocean science knowledge. Mr. Odent agreed with this proposal and hoped to have even closer cooperation in the future.
After the meeting, Mr. Odent gave a lecture to the students and faculty of Ocean and Earth Science College titledNew International OceanOrder and Responsibilities ofInternational Seabed Authority. Later, the guests visited the State KeyLaboratoryof Marine Geology, Tongji University.
