On the afternoon of February 27th, the University President Pei Gang met with Julia Kristeva, the distinguished French philosopher, linguist, literary critic, psychoanalyst, feminine ideologist and professor of University of Paris VII. Principals of College of Humanities and Academy of European Cultures attended the meeting.

Pei Gang warmly welcomed the guest and highly praised academic achievement and international prestige. He also mentioned the University’s support to the development of the liberal arts when introducing the university’s situation. He wished to develop further communication and cooperation with University of Paris VII. Both sides exchanged ideas on the mission of universities and intellectuals and the effects of cultural exchange. Prof. Kristeva accepted invitation for next visit enjoyably.

After the meeting, Prof. Kristeva gave a lecture titled Une Européenne en Chine to more than 250 students and teachers from Tongji, Fudan University and East China Normal University.
