U.S. EPA Delegation Visited Tongji

On the morning of December 1st, the delegation of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) led by the director Stephen L. Johnson visited Tongji University. The University President Pei Gang met the guests. Ms. Tang Bicui, U.S. Consul-general in Shanghai, Charles McElwee, President of American Business Environment Council and Zhang Quan, Chief ofShanghaiEnvironmental Protection Bureau were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the two parties exchanged ideas on how to further intensify the cooperation in the field of environment protection. Firstly, Pei Gang expressed welcome to the visitors on behalf of Tongji University. He said this meeting would bridge the communication between Tongji and EPA as well as promote the cooperation on global warming, greenhouse gases control and water pollution control. The specific methods included sharing the information platform, promoting cooperation between EPA labs and Tongj on scientific research, etc. Mr. Johnson highly praised the achievements tongji had made in the field of environment protection. He expressed his willingness to increase communication and cooperation between the two sides.

After the meeting, Mr. Johnson gave a speech on environment protection and economic sustainable development.
