2008 Tongji-Bayer Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights Held in Tongji

On October 17th, 2008 Tongji-Bayer seminar on intellectual property rights (IPR) opened at the international auditorium of Sino-French Center of Tongji University (TU). Zhou Jialun, Director of TU Affairs Commission, and Michael Koenig, CEO Great China of Bayer Group presented themselves at the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 20 German representatives attended the meeting, including Lothar Steiling, top patent counselor of Bayer Ltd. and Chairman of German IPR Expert Commission, Tilman Breitenstein, Senior patent counselor of Bayer Ltd., Jan Van Rompaey, dean of Department of IPR of Bayer Crops Science Ltd. and so on. This seminar was held by Tongji University and Bayer Ltd. (China).

Conventioneers exchanged opinions and discussed on the following subjects: the current practice, prospect and challenges of IPR enforcement; interpretation of requirement of German patent rights and scope of patent protection; interpretation of requirement of Chinese patent rights and scope patent protection; prospect of EC patent court system; obligatory license in Chinese patent law; experience of executing patent law in the field of biological technology.
