On September 25 -26, the international conference of Tongji University CAUP and the first conference of international expert consultative committee were held in CAUP. Zhou Jialun, Secretary of Tongji University Committee of CCP presented himself and delivered the welcome speech, and President Pei Gang heard the evaluation report and conferred letters of appointments to members of the consultative committee.

Chairman of this International Evaluation Committee (IEC) was Professor Hans-Rudolf Schalcher, Dean of College of Urban Management of ETH, and the members of this IEC were: Gaetan Siew, Chairman of IASBE, Zou Deci, academician of Chinese Engineering Academy, Standford Anderson, Ex-dean of Architecture Department of MIT, Alessandro Balducci, Dean of School of Architecture of Politecnico di Milano, Thomas Jocher, Director of Institute of Housing and Design of University of Stuttgart, Robert Ivy, editor in chief of the proceeding of AACArchitectural Record, Alexander Tzonis, a senior professor of Delft University, and Japanese architect Matsunaga Yasumitsu.

During the course of the evaluation, Dean Wu Zhiqiang representing CAUP firstly made an overall report from 7 aspects, and Academician Zheng Shiling participated in the discussion. Then Professor Ren Changqing, Dean of Department of Architecture, Professor Tang Zilai, Dean of Department of Urban Planning, and Professor Liu Binyi, Dean of Department of Landscape Science delivered a report to the committee members on the conditions of teaching, scientific research and social service of their respective departments. The judges also made some researches and interviews, inspected the major instruments of teaching and scientific research in CAUP, and had an informal discussion with professor teams of different research directions. All the judges audited the teaching of project curriculum for undergraduates majoring in urban planning and architecture.

After heated discussion, judges made an evaluation on the teaching, scientific research, practice and international level and so on of CAUP. In the final evaluation report, they affirmed the rapid development and advancement of internationalization of CAUP in recent years, and also put forward some valuable suggestions on the orientation, developmental direction, further optimization of the teaching and scientific research system, continuing advancement of internalization and so on.

Finally, the judges accepted President Pei Gang’s invitation jollily and would like to make suggestions on the development of CAUP of Tongji University.
