On the afternoon of June 26th, Prof. Michael F. Goodchild, a member ofU.S.National Academy of Sciences and distinguished geographic information scientist fromUniversityof California, Santa Barbara gave a special academic lecture on the fundamental questions of space concept for the teachers and students ofDepartmentof Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Civil Engineering College andCollegeof Ocean and Earth Sciences at the Yifu Building.
At the same time, Prof. Goodchild was appointed the Honorary Professor of Tongji. The University Executive Vice-President Li Yongsheng presented the certificate and school badge for him.
Prof. Goodchild’s lecture--Fundamental Questions of Spaceelaborated on the importance of solving problems with space concept and summarized 6 fundamental concepts of space, which laid the foundation for spatial thinking. After the lecture, he answered the questions of the teachers and students present. Prof. Goodchild’s open academic horizons, rich and accurate data and humorous expression won warm applauses from the audiences.
