After the severe Sichuan earthquake, Japanese Obirin University-the sister university of Tongji and Confucius Institute at Obirin, co-founded by Tongji and Obirin, carried on a series of disaster relieving activities immediately.
Toyoshi Satow, President of Obirin University and Confucius Institute at Obirin went to Chinese embassy in Japan personally and donated 2 million Yen on behalf of Obirin University for the disaster area after the earthquake. Meanwhile, all the teaching staff and students of Obirin University and Confucius Institute at Obirin held a disaster relief found raising activity, which would last to June 30th. Besides, in view of the negative influence the earthquake brought to Chinese economy, Confucius Institute at Obirin proposed the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language initiatively to raise the Institute expense proportion of the Japanese side in 2008 to lower the burden of Chinese side and contributed their part for reducing Chinese financial burden this year.
