Every photograph recorded the action of Tongji teachers and students in the earthquake relief, and every word expressed their concerns towards the disaster area. On June 5th, the 5.12 Earthquake Relief Photographic Exhibition organized by the propaganda department of the University Party Committee and University News Center was held in 1.29 Auditorium and the Great Auditorium respectively. The University leaders Zhou Jialun, Li Guoqiang, Chen Xiaolong, Lu Minxun, Ma Jinming and Jiang Fuming, etc. watched the exhibition.
After the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake, teachers and students of Tongji University donated money and goods. We donated altogether more than 6 million Yuan and provided material assistance for disaster relief. Famous experts, professors and graduate students in 12 fields closely related with disaster relief organized anEarthquake Relief Professional Technical Volunteer Service Teamat the first moment. More than 90 teachers and students and 20 medical volunteers have been to the front line of disaster relief. They provided the professional services such as earthquake assessment, emergency buildings assessment and temporary settling planning, etc.
The exhibition was arranged chronologically and displayed the photographs of all kinds of disaster relieving activities our teachers and students held after the earthquake including the first-hand information from volunteers at the front line and news reports about Tongji’s disaster relieving activities. This exhibition reviewed and summarized vividly the disaster relieving works we had done in the last phase and showed our resolution of pulling together in times of trouble and helping people in disaster area.
