Recently, Prof. Suo Zhigang gave lectures titledfrom Harvard Student to Member of US National Academy of EngineeringandMechanics of Soft Active Materialsfor teachers and students in our university.

In the lecture, Prof. Suo Zhigang demonstrated the endeavors a bemused student made to become a world famous scholar through his own studying and working experience. He told our students, “Learn from great teacher, learn from fellow student, learn from great book, find something that you like to do and do it as well as you can, study English”. He also encouraged the students to become excellent talents because the talent scout is met frequently. He reminded the teachers the importance of cooperation. A distinguished researcher should cooperate with researchers in different fields and learn from them. Sometimes a teacher can even gain aspiration from his students.

Prof. Suo introduced the construction process of gel material analysis model with vivid and easy language. He started from the basic concept and emphasized the fundamental nature physics to achieve a logical interpretation of physical phenomena and mechanism. His innovative research approach, which emphasized concepts and experiments without confining to certain methods, attracted the teachers and students present. Impressed by the lecture, the audience asked lots of questions and discussed some of them with Prof. Suo enthusiastically.

Nearly 180 teachers and students from Tongji University, Fudan University, and Shanghai University, etc attended the lectures.
