46 simple self-rescuing earthquake shelters were distributed on the open space before the building of Architecture & Urban Planning College, and the students have experienced for themselves to stay in them for a night. On May 31st, the Experiment of Building Simple Self-rescuing Earthquake Shelters and 2008 Construction Festival of Architecture & Urban Planning College was held. The University executive vice-president Li Yongsheng and principals and related teachers of Architecture & Urban Planning College attended the opening ceremony. This activity attracted lots of media in Shanghai.
This activity aimed at establishing the consciousness of earthquake-resistance and cultivating self-rescuing and teamwork ability of the students in emergent situations. Nearly 600 students covering 6 majors from 23 classes in Architecture & Urban Planning College and College for Women participated in the activity. They were divided into 46 groups and experienced the actual space environment. They put up 46 simple self-rescuing earthquake shelters with cardboards of packing chests and corrugated cardboards in one day and made residential experiments in them at night. The designing of these 46 shelters was diversified and demonstrated our students’ creative thinking and practical abilities and won praise from the judges and guests.
