University President Pei Gang Met Mr. Koji Omi, President of STS

On the afternoon of May 18th, the University President Pei Gang met Mr. Koji Omi in the reception room of the PJF meeting place, who was present at the Pujiang Innovation Forum (PJF) upon invitation. Mr. Koji Omi was a member of House of Representatives of Japan, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, and President and initiator of Science and Technology in Society Forum (STS). They had a friendly conversation and both sides expressed their strong desire to increase exchange and cooperation in the future.

Mr. Koji Omi introduced the basic situation of STS Forum to Pei Gang and invited him to attend the fifth annual meeting that would be held in October. Through this forum, scientists, experts, government leaders and business leaders form different countries and regions could discuss the advantages and disadvantages of science and technology together. It has become a special platform for multinational discussion of vital problems for humans in the future. This forum was established in November 2004, and later held meetings at Kyoto every year.

Pei Gang expressed thanks to Mr. Koji Omi for his attendance at the Pujiang Innovation Forum and introduction of Japan’s experience in scientific innovation and economic development. He said that Tongji had established cooperative relationship with many Japanese universities and wished to expand the cooperative and exchanging fields between the two parties. Pei Gang also thanked Mr. Koji Omi for inviting him to the annual meeting, although he could not attend it this year because of the conflict in his schedule, he would surly go in the future.
