Thailand Students Celebrated Their Traditional Festival——Water-sprinkling Festival in Tongji

On April 12th, Thailand students in Tongji celebrated their traditional festival——Water-sprinkling Festival subsidized by Thailand Consulate-general in Shanghai. Mr. Chalit Manityakul Thailand Consul-general in Shanghai, Yang Dongyuan, Vice-president of Tongji University and Cai Jianguo, Dean of College International Exchange attended the activity as guests. They celebrated the once-a-year Thailand New Year with more than 100 Thailand students in Shanghai.

The Thailand students studying in Economics and Management College of Tongji University were excellent students who had been awarded Thailand Premier Scholarship. They were not only hard-working students but also organizers of Thailand students’ union in Shanghai. In this activity, they displayed their national culture through the form of speeches, dancing, games, food and fashion shows. According to the Thailand customs, they sprinkled the fragrant water in the guests’ hands, which represented respect for the eldership and pray for blessing. Meanwhile the Thailand students performed beautiful dance of their regions, made various Thailand food and drinks and introduced traditional Thailand games. A beauty contest of Thailand Water-sprinkling Festival attracted the audience. Several girls from different countries were invited to dress in beautiful Thailand traditional closes and exhibited their beauty and elegance. More and more students were attracted by the festival atmosphere and took part in the performance, which promoted the activity to the climax. At 3 o’ clock in the afternoon, this activity ended with Thailand songs.
