Ms. Dorothee Secretary-General of DFG visited Tongji University

Recently President Pei Gang met the DFG (Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft) Delegation consisting of 7 members accompanied by HanJianguo, Director of International Cooperation Bureau of China National Natural Science Foundation and Lu Rongkai, Head of West Europe Dept. Pei Gang expressed warmly welcome to the visitors. He mentioned the Sino-German University Presidents’ Forum that will be held in our university in October and expected substantial support from DFG. Ms. Dorothee, secretary-general of DFG promised that Dr. Mathias Kleiner, president of DFG would attend the forum and make address. Besides, both parties expressed the strong desire to strengthen their cooperation. President assistant DongQi, professors and experts from Sino-German College, Sino-German School of Engineer, School of Law and Politics, School of Humanities and Sci-tech Department were also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, the delegacy visited the Sino-German College firstly. Chinese assistant dean Wu Zhihong and Germany assistant dean Si Matao(Thomas Zimmer)introduced the historical background and recent developing situation of Sino-German College to the visitors and expressed the tentative proposal to establish the Sino-German Doctoral Institute. Ms. Dorothee concurred and expected to cooperate on the cultivation plan of young scientists. Besides the delegacy visited the labs of Medical College and Ocean College and highly complimented the scientific research ability of the University. Finally, the delegacy arrived at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Dean Wu Zhiqiang and other professors introduced the classification of disciplines and general situation of foreign cooperation of the College. Visitors also watched short films of the University Centennial Anniversary and planning of 2010 World Expo.
