On the evening of September 21, the results were announced of IStructE China Awards 2007 hosted by the British Institute of Structural Engineers, undertaken by the Architectural Design and Research Institute of our university. Six items from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong won gold, silver, bronze medals respectively: Hong Kong Times Square, New Building of the Capital Museum, Henan Arts Center, Teaching and Research Building of our university etc. Mr. Ding Jiemin, Assistant President of our university and Rector of the Architectural Design and Research Institute, emceed the ceremony at which many structural experts were specially invited as judges, both David Harvey, Chairman of Britain Structural Engineers Association, and Mr. Jiang Huancheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering included. They judged carefully the function, originality, scientific and technical breakthroughs, building materials and construction, economic efficiency, sustainability, and many other aspects of the chosen works.



Experts believed that the architectural choices of the Teaching and Research Building brought the enormous challenges to the structural design of the project, the structural engineering was designed boldly and innovatively, the rational facilities were positioned reasonably, and the detailed engineering was analyzed to confirm the reliability of the design.
