On the occasion of Tong Ji 100thanniversary, Chairman Hu Jintao sent his congratulatory letter to express his best regards and wishes. Other national leaders, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jjia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun, Luo Gan, Zhu Rongji, Qiao Shi, Li Lanqing congratulated on Tong Ji’s 100 birthday in various forms.
In Hu’s letter, he pointed out that holding the notion of preciseness, practice, union and innovation, Tong Ji formed its glorious patriotic tradition and superior school spirit since its establishment 100 years ago. After liberation, particularly, Tong Ji made outstanding achievements in education, scientific research, social services and foreign exchange under the leadership of Communist Party.
University, Hu said, is an important position of strategy of invigorating our country through science and education. Tong Ji University abides by Deng Xiaoping’s Theory and “three representatives” theory, implements scientific development philosophy, and has made great contribution in well-off society building and the enhancement of social modernization.
Celebration ceremony was held in Students’ Hall of Tong Ji University. State Councilor Chen Zhili delivered a speech on behalf of the State Council. The congratulatory letter of Chairman Hu Jintao, she said, has expressed the sincere hopes of Chinese party central committee, thus it deserves our further study. The key element in social development, she emphasized, is the talent. Therefore, top universities should place the students training and education the first. On the other hand, comprehensive university should possess its own characteristics, and reinforce construction and development of new courses and key programs by merging into national innovation system in order to make greater contribution to construction of innovative country.
Other central party committee leaders, Li Tieying, Gu Xiulian, and alumni, presidents of the universities home and abroad, students and teaching stuff of Tong Ji University, amounted to 10000 attended the ceremony.
The Secretary of Party Committee of Tong Ji Mr. Zhou Jialun opened the ceremony. To start with, the President Wan Gang delivered a speech “Tong Ji centennial, the commitment university gives to society”. The President of technical university of Berlin on behalf of universities abroad, academician Wu Mengchao the alumni, Sun Lijun the academic community gave congratulatory speeches respectively.
