Tong Ji Co-organized the “Creation and Sustainable Development Forum”

As one of the Tongji centennial projects, organized by the UN Environment Office and National Environment Protection Office, co-organized by Tongji, the “Creation and Sustainable Development Forum” was held in the international conference center of Jiading campus on May 18th.

People who attended the forum and gave lectures are Vice secretary-general of UN, administer of the UN Environment Programming Office Achim Steiner; deputy director general of National Environment Office Xiaoqing Wu; Principal Gang Wan; Bayer China Co. Ltd president Michael Koenig; Simens committee member Klaus Wucherer; as well as Shanghai investment and development general manager Qingwei Kong, Zhangjiang High-tech development stock company board chairman Xiaolong Liu. Vice principal Jianfu Zhao took the chair.

Gang Wan’s lecture is about “Creation Serves Sustainable Development”. Achim Steiner’s lecture is titled “Environment Sustainable Development and Creation”, and that of Xiaoqing Wu is “Environment Technology Creation and Sustainable Development”.

This forum also invited Joan Martinez-Alier, chairman of the international eco-economics academy; Robert Costanza, initiator of eco-economics and superintendent of America Vermont University graduate school; Takamitsu Sawa, economics professor of Japan Kyoto University; Prof. Yi Qian, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and some other famous experts at home and aboard. They centered the four sub-subjects to give lectures respectively.

As said, the forum is also in memory of the 20th anniversary of the term “sustainable development” first mentioned in world environment committee’s report “our common future” in 1987. Also, it is a celebration of the 15 anniversary of the sustainable development strategy which the UN started in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
