On the night of May 16th, as one of Tongji’s 100thanversary activities, the competition of translating the anthem whose slogan is “Coming together from all over the world, Studying for the whole world” was held in the 1.29 auditorium on Siping campus.
The vice president gave a speech in the concert and celebrated the foundation of the “Foreign Language Group” leaning base. The student representatives dedicated theCollection of Anthemsthat was written in nine languages to our university. As a soulful gift, the vice secretary of the Party committee of the university Ma Jinming accepted it.
The concert was divided into three chapters: “Compatibility is what a university should have”, “Diversity is what a unviersity should pursue”, “Broadness is what a university should aspire”. Students from the department of music, foreign language school, Economic & management department, etc. as well as overseas students sang the anthem in German, Japanese, English, French, Korean and Uighur. They not only showed their elegant demeanor but also their sincere blessings for Tongji University. In addition, the top 10 singers of Tongji University were invited to sing the spirits of Tongji and their wonderful performance added a lot to the warm atmosphere.
The anthem translating competition lasted for a couple of months and was responded by all the students and teachers in Tongji. The manuscripts reached nearly one hundred. Including the ones translated by overseas students in French, Thai, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese as well as Uighur. During the competition, a lot of experts in translation and folk music were invited to select the excellent manuscripts in English, German and Japanese with the standards of faithfulness and easiness of singing. Student Yuan Jingliang from the German department got the first prize.
