After more than 400 days preparation, the Tong Ji history gallery opened in the morning of May 12th. The leaders, Wan Gang, Li Yongsheng, Lli Guoqiang, Zhou Zuyi, Lu Minxun, Ma Jinming, Jiang Fuming and Liu Chuang who donated 3 millions to the gallery construction, and some officials from schools and departments attended the opening ceremony.
The gallery was built in imitation of the girls’ dormitory on Wu Song Campus in 1930s. There are 3 layers in all with the construction area of 1395 m2.On the first floor, there is an exhibition wall, a bronze of Doctor Erich Paulun, the founder of Tong Ji University, a soil pillar, which contains soil took from 20 campuses in 7 different provinces in the historic development of Tong Ji, and a research system of alumni data, in which information of more than 200,000 alumni could be found. The second floor is divided into 5 exhibition areas, which show the historical development of Tong Ji from all aspects. The exhibition on the third floor reflects the achievements of Tong Ji in discipline construction, education and training, scientific research and international communication.
In the exhibition, various means, exhibition board, historical objects and modals, are adopted. Particularly, some advanced imaging technology is put into use. For example, the 7 minutes illusionary imaging produced by the students from film school re-appears the life on Li Zhuang campus in 1940s.
