Us-sino News – On March 25th, the Tong Ji University Alumni Association in the U.S.A gave a banquet in the honour of President Wan Gang- who was invited to attend the Higher Education Forum in Rice University-at Phoenix Sea Food Restaurant. Officials from China Consulate General in the U.S.A, the technology attaché Mr. Chen Heping, the technology consul Mr. Chen Yibin, as well as the chairman of Huston Society for the Advancement for Peace and Union Xu Huazhang, and more than 40 Tong Ji alumni attended the banquet.
President Wan Gang expressed the tributes to Alumni Association, and gave a speech at the banquet. He said, the scene of the dinner party reminded him of the days when he studied in Germany. At that time, he was the chairman of Tong Ji Alumni Association and organized a celebrating ceremony to give a warm welcome to former President Wu Qidi. Knowing alumni have made great achievements in different trades and callings, Wan sent his best wishes and congratulations. He hoped that alumni would contribute more in culture and technology exchange between two countries. In May, he added, the time when Tong Ji will have its centennial celebration, all the alumni are warmly welcomed to attend the ceremony.
The chairman of Tong Ji Alumni Association Mr. Jin Shengwen reported briefly the preparation work of the centennial ceremony made by alumni and the funds set up by the association, which were designed to help the students from poor families.
After the banquet, President wan presented a video, which introduced the centennial celebrating activities, the development of Tong Ji over past 100 years, its current situation and also the brilliant future. Alumni representatives presented Mr. wan a typical Texas cowboy hat as a gift. The chairman of Huston Association for Advancement of Peace and Union Mr. Xu Huazhang presented a couplet written by himself to Mr. Wan and claimed that the Association will give support and concern to education heretofore.
