On Dec. 4th, a delegation led by Mr. Eisenblaette, CEO of GTZ visited Tongji and was received by president Wan Gang. The delegation included Dr. Dresruesse, GTZ’s area manager of Asian-Pacific, Latin American-Caribbean region and Dr. Skala-Kuhmann, GTZ’s chief representative in China.
During the meeting, president Wan informed them of the recruitment of the African students. Mr. Wan said that over the last 25 years, Tongji has always been recruiting African applicants and that a good number of African graduates of Tongji have become pillars either in academic cycle or in national construction in their own countries. This year, Tongji, German Forschungszentrum Juelich (research center) and UN Environment Program, headquartered in Kenya initiated a trilateral joint doctoral summer training program. Next year, this course will be rendered in Tongji, as an important component of Tongji’s Centennial Celebration and a good opportunity for Tongji to expand its international program, added Mr. Wan. Mr. Eisenblaetter expressed great interest in the joint program and appreciation to Tongji’s efforts on international activities. He also that stated that GTZ, as a foreign aiding institute assigned by German Federal Ministry of Cooperation, would be invariably working on collaborative projects in China, especially in the west region. Besides, Mr. Eisenblaetter required about the undergoing preparation for Shanghai Expo. The meeting was also attended by president assistant, Dong Qi and heads of Institut für Brufsbildung der Tongji Universität and Department of Foreign Affairs.
