Tongji Sponsors 3rd International Symposium on the Progress of Calculated Geo-technical Engineering

October 30, 2006

Co-sponsored by Tongji University, Gifu University (Japan) and Nagoya Institute of Technology (Japan), the 3rdInternational Symposium on the Progress of Calculated Geo-technical Engineering was recently held in Xi’an. This symposium was organized by the School of Civil Engineering, Tongji, with Prof. Zhu Hehua as the chair and Prof. Yashima as the vice chair. More than 40 delegates from China, Japan, U.S.A., Canada, Brazil, Pakistan and other countries attended. The disquisitions given at the symposium will be compiled and published in Japan.

A Miniature yet high-level one in the sphere of international calculated geotechnical mechanics, this symposium covers the discussion of 32 disquisitions in eight series, mainly concerning the constitutive relations for rock and soil, unsaturated soil mechanics, new technologies for numerical simulation, and new approaches in their engineering application. The novelty of content, the advancement of technicality and the high applicability embody the latest researching fruits over the past two years in regard of calculated geotechnical engineering. After the conference, was arranged the field examination in Xi’an and Gansu Province.

It is said that the next round symposium will be held by University of Pittsburgh in 2008.
