Jointly set up by Tongji and Canadian University of Waterloo (UOW), the “Tongji-UOW Financial Solution Center” was launched at the base of Tongji College of Software Engineering in Zhangjiang High-tech Park on September 28th.
Academician Zhou Xingming, dean of College of Software Engineering, Prof. Thomas Coleman, dean of College of Mathematics of UOW, revealed the center. Tongji Vice President Li Guoqiang, Canadian General Consul in Shanghai Alain Gendron, deputy director of Shanghai Information Committee Zheng Huiqiang delivered congratulation speeches separately. After that, Prof. Thomas Coleman made a speech, introducing the college’s achievement in computer and finance field. Over 40 people from Shanghai financial government officers, Microsoft Research Asia, IBM, City Bank, as well as UOW’s alumni in Shanghai, attended the ceremony.
The set up of this center will provide the most advanced information platform for scientific research and teaching cooperation for Shanghai and the Great China Area including Hong Kong, as well as senior consulting and training service for banking, security, investment and insurance industries. According to relative agreement, the center will be co-managed by China and Canada, with two directors from UOW and Tongji separately. At the same time, the center will set up academic committee and board of directors, providing professional consulting fro academic study, professional service and collegiate cooperation. It will maximize the two parts’ experiences and advantages to carry out scientific research and teaching cooperation in finance and computer science in China, actively getting involved in China’s financial information process.
Ranking the first among Canadian Universities for continuous ten years, UOW win the fame of most innovative university. The Computer Science, Software Engineering under College of Mathematics have important influence to mathematics, statistics and information science industries in North America and the world. Tongji colleges will also give full play to its advantages and integrate resources to co-establish the set up of the center.
