Tongji and Mentor Graphics Construct Integrated Circuit Simulation Lab

May 23, 2006

Jointly initiated by Tongji and America Mentor Graphics, the “SoC Hardware Simulation and Verifying Laboratory” was set up in Microelectronic Center on the morning of May 23rd. It is the third similar cooperative organization of large-scale integrated circuit hardware simulation and verifying in China after Peking University and CAS, providing advanced verifying tools and platform for integrated circuit R&D and the development of professional talents. Jiang Shangzhou, director of Shanghai Decision Consulting Committee, Yuan Yuebin, deputy secretary of Yangpu District, Ma Jiefu, deputy director of Yangpu, Daniel Yang, president of Mentor Graphics China, Bjorn Dahlberg, president of HILEVEL, Li Yongsheng, Tongji standing vice president, and Tongji vice president Yang Dongyuan, attended the opening ceremony.

It is said that the simulation and verifying of the chips is a key before put into production. It will decide whether the manufactured chips could operate successfully or not. In the newly founded joint lab, the core facility is the large memory and high efficient hardware simulation, applying to large-scale simulation verifying in communication, compute science, auto electronics and multi-media. Besides, Mentor Graphics also presented Tongji with thirty complete integrated circuit designing software valued US$ 180 million. As the first professional organization with advanced hardware simulation system in East China, the joint lab will open to the public and provide professional training classes.

On the same day, America HILEVEL present Tongji Microelectronics with integrated circuit testing system. The set up of the joint lab and the introduction of testing system make Tongji become a complete system integrating chip designing, verifying and testing.
