On the morning of March 23rd, Gerhard Schroeder, Tongji honorable doctor and former Germanpremier paid a second visit to Tongji under the companion of Lu Qiutian, head of Chinese Academy of Diplomacy. Zhou Jialun, director of Tongji School Affairs Committee, met Dr. Schroeder, and introduced Tongji’s latest development, including the construction of Jiading Campus. Zhou also extended his appreciation for Schroeder’s attention in Tongji’s development as well as his support for cooperative program between Tongji and Germany.

Attendants to the meeting also include, Prof. Zhao Xudong, head of Tongji-Deutsch Friendship Hospital preparation team, Prof. Zimmer, vice dean of Tongji-Deutsch College, Prof. Wu Zhihong, Chinese vice dean of Tongji-Deutsch College, Prof. Feng Xiao, dean of Tongji-Deutsch Engineering College, Prof. Orth, German general coordinator for the project, associate professor Wang Jiping, vice dean of Vocational College, associate professor Li Guoqiang, standing deputy director of German Academic Center.

Dr. Schroeder stated that he would like to offer help for Tongji to strengthen contact and communication between Tongji and potential partners. Mr. Zhou also invited Dr. Schroeder to attend Tongji’s 100th anniversary.

After the meeting, Prof. Yu Zhuoping, dean of College of Automotive Engineering introduced theChaoyue III, the fuel cell automobile developed by Tongji.

On December 30th, 2002, Mr, Schroeder paid a visit to Tongji and was employed to the third Honorable Doctor of Tongji University.
