Tongji and Obirin Sign Contract to Establish Confucius College

On the morning of January 18th, President Wan Gang and Toyoshi Satow, Chairman of Board of Trustees Obirin University signed the executive contract to jointly establish the Confucius College of Obirin University. The college is planned to set up in the middle of March this year and will welcome its first group students in April.

It is said that the Confucius College will set up the Chinese Special Courses lasting one to one and a half years. After finishing study in the college, students can be recommended by the dean to be the sophomore students of Tongji International College. The college will also hold some lectures on Chinese language and culture, organize Chinese language level test, and hold other activities to spread Chinese language and culture. Tongji on the other side will send one standing vice dean in Japan and Chinese teachers according to real situations. Detailed issues are charged by Tongji International School.

It is said that the decision to establish at least 100 Confucius Colleges over the world is a response to the continuing Chinese heat. China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language has signed contract with universities in America, France, Sweden and Japan. The establishment will be done by one China inland university and its counterpart in foreign country.
