Memorial ceremony for martyrs held at Tongji University during Qingming Festival

A memorial ceremony for martyrs and the opening ceremony of the fourth "Yinfu Class" -- a young Marxist training project, were held in the Memorial Garden of Student Movement on the Siping Campus on April 2, during Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-sweeping Day, which falls on April 5. The event was attended by PENG Zhenwei, vice party secretary of the university, the head of the University Youth League Committee, six police officers from the Hudong Gaoxiao Police Station of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, representatives of the third Yinfu Class and all students of the fourth Yinfu Class.

PENG Zhenwei delivered a speech, in which, he paid tributes to the martyrs and encouraged the Yinfu Class students to learn the history of the Communist Party of China, to strengthen their beliefs in and loyalty to the Party, to arm their minds with XI Jinping's thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and to make unremitting efforts towards the second centenary goals.

In the Memorial Garden of the Students Movement, students of the fourth Yinfu Class paid tributes to the university martyrs with a situational recitation, interpreting the determination, patriotism and dedication of YIN Fu, YIN Jingyi and LIU Zongxin in the face of the country's destruction, and expressing their determination to remember history, love the country, and inherit beliefs of the martyrs. Six police officers from Hudong Gaoxiao Police Station and all the students of Yinfu Class then observed a collective silence and laid flowers.

After laying flowers, the students and faculty members visited the Memorial Garden together. KANG Xiaobo, a member of the fourth Yinfu Class, narrated the stories of martyrs such as YIN Jingyi, a pioneer of the May 30th Movement (1925), and YIN Fu, a revolutionary poet. With reverence, the students and faculty members showed their respect to the revolutionary martyrs and their revolutionary spirit of Tongji's patriotic youth.

At last, the students took part in a presentation of “YIN Fu, Tongji’s Martyr" by ZHANG Qi, a representative of the third Yinfu Class.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, which was a groundbreaking event in Chinese history, for everything has changed in China ever since. To honor the revolutionary spirit of YIN Fu, the University Youth League Committee launched the start of the fourth Young Marxist Training Project “Yinfu Class” which consists of 33 undergraduates and postgraduate students from 24 schools of the university in the Memorial Garden. The Yinfu Class of this year aims to cultivate young leaders with pioneering spirit, integrity and love for the nation.
