On March 19, the first academic conference on Intelligent Unmanned Systems and Endogenous Security was held at Tongji University. The conference was co-sponsored by the Artificial Intelligence Committee of China Cyberspace Endogenous Safety and Security Technology and Industry Alliance and the Internet of Vehicles Committee of China Institute of Communications, and co-organized by Tongji University, Shanghai University, Beijing Institute of Technology and Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Attending the meeting were the Director of the China National Digital Switching System Engineering & Technology Research and Development Center, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of Fudan University WU Jiangxing, Vice President of China Information and Communication Technology Group CHEN Shanzhi, and President of Tongji University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering CHEN Jie. Deputy Secretary-General of the Endogenous Safety Alliance of Purple Mountain Laboratories ZHANG Fang, and Vice President of Tongji University TONG Xiaohua delivered speeches on behalf of sponsors and organizers respectively. More than 60 experts and scholars from universities and fields of from the enterprise sectors of enterprise intelligent control, vehicle networking, unmanned systems and information security gathered to discuss how to improve the development and safety of unmanned systems in the age of artificial intelligence. TONG Xiaohua chaired the meeting.
The reporter learned at the conference that intelligent unmanned systems utilize robots, driverless cars, drones and unmanned underwater vehicles as physical carriers, basing their operation through the integration of new frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data. This integrated system intelligently realizes independence, autonomy and cooperation to eventually complete complex tasks. It has great potential in incubating national strategic science and technological applications that will help develop key industries of the digital economy in the future. This will empower intelligent traffic systems, intelligent manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart community support and other multi-scenario applications in which technology can be upgraded. Endogenous safety is an innovative technology proposed by Chinese scientists in response to common and deep-rooted worldwide problems in the field of cyber security. Its core resolve is to adhere to and apply a systemic concept to allow the technology architecture to endow network life forms with safe genes or "intrinsic" attributes, in order that these provide a strong self "immunity" in operating under "poisonous bacteria" conditions.
Academician WU Jiangxing gave a report entitled "Endogenous Safety and Intelligent Connected Vehicles". He pointed out that with the increasing electrification, enhanced intelligence and growing networking of automobiles, the functional safety and cyber security of automobiles are intertwined and, as a result, such dual safety and protection of automobiles has become indispensable in the Internet age. The endogenous safety empowerment of intelligent connected vehicles is expected to build an original, leading international safety theory and technological system for intelligent connected vehicles. This will solve the worldwide problem of functional safety and cyber security of smart connected cars in an integrated way, and provide the automotive industry with the dual safety technology of integrated design and verifiable measurement in this era of networking.

Professor TONG Xiaohua of Tongji University, Professor SUN Jian of Beijing Institute of Technology, Professor LI Yufeng of Shanghai University, and Professor CHEN Shanzhi from China Information and Communication Technology Group gave successive reports. These were entitled "From Earth to Extraterrestrial Objects: Progress of Autonomous Intelligent Surveying and Mapping", "Research Progress of Unmanned System Safety Control", "Verification Practice of the Autonomous Driving Endogenous Safety Principle", and "Technology, Standards and Industrial Development of C-V2X Internet of Vehicles".
The conference reports were followed by a roundtable discussion. In-depth deliberations around the intelligent unmanned systems and endogenous safety theme were carried out by Academician CHEN Jie, Professor XIE Shaorong of Shanghai University, Professor JIANG Yugang of Fudan University, Director of Ubiquitous Network Office of Datang Mobile Standards Department XU Hui, Professor HE Bin of Tongji University, Deputy Director of Shanghai Broadband Network Technology and Application Engineering Research Center and Director of Lingang Smart City Development Center LU Xiaoyuan, Director of Henan Key Laboratory of Cyber Mimic Defense YI Peng, as well as other experts and scholars.
CHEN Jie observed that the conference had been successful and expressed his thanks to all the experts and scholars for coming to Tongji University to pass on their valuable experience. He confirmed the great significance of focusing on the theme of "Intelligent Unmanned Systems and Endogenous Safety". The Unmanned systems are a crucial carrier of artificial intelligence, and its endogenous safety is an important driving force to ensure a healthy and safe development. Endogenous safety is also of great academic significance for the Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems, which is being built by Tongji University.

CHEN Jie making a speech
Experts stated that as a major country involved in the digital economy and one that is a pioneer in artificial intelligence, China needs to adhere to the concept of governance and attach equal importance to development and security. China's independently created endogenous safety technology in cyberspace is maturing day by day, and lays out a brand-new path to solve the complex and diverse security problems that arise from intelligent unmanned systems. Experts believe that the conference will promote China's academic and industrial fields to form a "Chinese solution" to intelligent systems security as part of the development of intelligent unmanned systems. This will build up the "immune system" of cyber life through endogenous safety technology, and explore a new security technology methodology that provides high reliability, credibility and accessibility, to support the vigorous and solid development of China's digital economy and intelligent society. This will likewise support the national strategy of Network Power, and safeguard the interests of the people and national security.
