The 2021 German Training Course for young cadres of Tongji University started on the afternoon of March 3. Tongji University Party Secretary FANG Shouen attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Executive Deputy Party Secretary FENG Shenhong chaired the ceremony. Vice President HUANG Xiangfeng, relevant responsible individuals of the Organization Department of the Party Committee, heads of the School of Foreign Languages, as well as 25 trainees attended the ceremony.

FANG Shouen stated in his speech that internationalization is a regular schooling theme of Tongji University and an inevitable requirement for the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. Tongji University is the window of China’s exchanges with Germany, and has always been the center of German education and training in China, playing an important role in promoting cooperation and collaboration with Germany. In order to maintain and further develop the tradition of Tongji University's communication with Germany and Europe, the university decided to offer a German training course to young cadres. He hoped that the participants will raise their awareness, grasp the valuable learning opportunity, devote themselves to German learning with a sense of mission, adapt to the changes, properly handle the relationship between work and study, observe regulations and discipline, be strict in self-discipline, strengthen their learning with high standards, and apply the learning results to their actual work and life as soon as possible, so as to make this training effective.

FENG observed that as a window of exchange with Germany, Tongji University needs a large number of teachers and cadres with foreign language communication skills, so as to develop a broader capacity for international cooperation for the future development of the university. He hoped that all participants raise their awareness, make strong efforts, live up to expectations, fulfill their mission, and achieve good results from the training, so that they can contribute fully to the important task of promoting international exchange and cooperation in the future.

The German Department of School of Foreign Languages introduced the arrangements of the German training course. The training course is planned to be carried out during the present semester, extending to the summer and the fall semester. It will include German language training in listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as lectures on German culture. The course will cover between 500 to 600 hours of teaching.

The Teacher of the School of Life Sciences and Technology ZHANG Ru spoke on behalf of the trainees. She thanked the university for providing a rare training opportunity and hoped that the course would enable her to learn the German language, better understand German culture and contribute to the strengthening of Sino-German education and scientific research exchange and cooperation in the future.
