Recently, Tongji University and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) signed a strategic cooperation agreement, which demonstrated the two sides’ commitment to cooperate in the field of AI and communications and to collaborate in carrying out talent cultivation and scientific research to empower and boost the development of AI, IT, the economy and the wider society.

The signing ceremony was held at CAICT, and was attended by CAICT President YU Xiaohui, Vice President WANG Zhiqin and Chief Engineer HU Jianbo as well as Tongji University President CHEN Jie, Vice President GU Xianglin and TONG Xiaohua. WANG Zhiqin and GU Xianglin signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties respectively.

According to the cooperation agreement, the two sides will fully leverage advantages in scientific research, technology development and talent cultivation, focus on key technology fields such as AI, unmanned systems, cyber security, and the internet of vehicles and intelligent transportation. The agreement will also optimize resource allocation, promote the effective interfacing of elements such as technology, services, policies and talents, and jointly carry out all-round strategic cooperation in scientific research, technology application, industrial integration and talent cultivation. Cooperation between the two sides will include scientific and technological collaboration in AI and communications, the establishment of Tongji University-CAICT Intelligent Communications Laboratory, training and exchanges of scientific and technological innovation talents, sharing breakthroughs in basic theories and key core technologies, cultivation of high-end IT research-oriented and application-oriented talents, transfer of scientific research achievements and transformation of related industries.
After the signing ceremony, the two sides held discussions and exchanges on areas of cooperation. Participants in the discussions included the heads of relevant research institutes and departments of CAICT, the Tongji President’s Office, the College of Electronic and Information Engineering, and the Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems (SRIFIAS) established by Tongji.
In his speech, CHEN Jie pointed out that Tongji enjoys a solid foundation in AI, network communications, intelligent manufacturing and other fields. In order to promote the advancement of AI, Tongji continues to explore and practice innovation at the forefront of AI science and technology. Developed by Tongji, SRIFIAS now stands out as Tongji's cross-cutting research platform, thereby giving the traditional disciplines new development momentum with "AI+". In addition, Tongji boasts platforms such as the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Evaluation Base, which lays a good foundation for future cooperation between the two parties, notably regarding important R&D in new energy vehicles.

YU Xiaohui introduced the major work priorities of CAICT in recent years, adding that both sides have chosen AI as the main point of entry for cooperation. Their respective qualities and experience will be brought into full play to cement the cooperation.
