February 12, 2021

On the afternoon of February 9, President CHEN Jie and Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee PENG Zhenwei visited Jiading Campus to express greetings to students having to stay in school during the winter vacation. They confirmed the university’s deep concern for them and expressed their New Year wishes. Heads from the President's Office, the Department of Education and Research, the Jiading Campus Management Committee Office, the Logistics Group and other departments participated in such comforting activities.

At around 5:00 p.m., CHEN Jie and his entourage visited the cafeteria of Jiading Campus. They inquired in detail about the operation of the cafeteria during the Spring Festival, expressed their empathies with the staff who have to stay on the front line and repeatedly urged the relevant departments to pay close attention to food safety to ensure that students can also eat safe and tasty meals during the holidays.

Afterwards, CHEN Jie and his entourage visited the student dormitories in Building No. 7-8 of Youyuan and held cordial exchanges with the students. They took interest and inquired about students’ study arrangements, accommodation and meals during the winter vacation, and wished them all a happy Chinese New Year.

On that day, the Party Building Activity Room in Building No. 9-10 of Youyuan was filled with the strong ambience of New Year festivities. Under the premise of strict pandemic prevention and control, CHEN Jie and his entourage gathered together with more than 30 representatives of students who stayed in school during the winter vacation to welcome in the New Year. Teachers and students wrote Spring Festival couplets and "fu" characters, and made facial makeup to experience traditional culture together. CHEN Jie and others presented students with fine New Year gift packages and New Year movie vouchers, hoping that they could turn the special experience of the pandemic into a precious memory during their lives. They wished them a happy and fulfilling winter vacation and hoped that they would welcome the Year of the Ox fully energized. The students presented the paper-cuts of the Tongji University badge made by themselves to the President, expressing their deep gratitude to the university and wishing Tongji continual improvement and prosperity.

At the exchange meeting, students who stayed in school held a video call with their distant family members and expressed their warm feelings with common themes such as "Dear mother and father, everything is well and the university is as warm as home. I have classmates and teachers to accompany me for the New Year, don't worry!". Students from all over the motherland sent blessings to each other in their hometown dialects, and also performed rousing guitar playing and folk dancing. The atmosphere was full of joy.

During this year's winter vacation, more than 600 students stayed at Jiading campus for the Spring Festival. The university adhered to the principles of "no slackening of pandemic prevention and control, no lack of education and guidance, and no shortage of service guarantee", and organized a variety of cultural and sports activities. The university library, cafeteria, dormitory and sports venues remained in normal operation, with good security provided throughout, so that students staying in school could benefit from a greater sense of safety, personal gain and happiness.
