Tongji University joins WAUCN to promote carbon neutrality

On October 27, a conference was held online to mark the establishment of the The World Alliance of Universities on Carbon Neutrality (WAUCN). WAUCN is the world's first global alliance of universities commited to talent cultivation and research cooperation in carbon-neutral technology. There are nearly 30 universities and research institutes around the world with WAUCN which is led by Southeast University, China and the University of Birmingham, the UK. President CHEN Jie of Tongji University, a founding member of WAUCN, attended the online conference.

President of Southeast University and President of the University of Birmingham delivered speeches on behalf of the WAUCN Secretariat respectively. WAUCN aims to give full play to the advantages of its solid research and interdisciplinary integration, and to promote in-depth cooperation and communication among global universities. Members of WAUCN will do joint research and training of high-level talents in the fight for carbon neutrality, provide sustainable energy solutions to realize the goals of WAUCN, and join hands to combat the climate change.

Tongji University has long been concerned about and committed to the research and innovation pertinent to carbon neutrality. In April this year, the Yangtze River Delta Region University Alliance for Sustainable Development, jointly proposed by Tongji University and other Eight Universities in East China, was established, and issued the University Initiative to Promote Carbon Dioxide Peaking and Carbon Neutralization. The initiative aims to bring about disruptive innovation in green and low-carbon technology, to popularize its application, and to enhance cooperative actions. (OU Ning)
