Recently, CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. led the development of the first commercial Version 3.0 Maglev train and secured complete independent intellectual property rights in China. Relevant dynamic and joint tests, as well as system joint debugging, were completed on the high-speed Maglev test line of Tongji University. This indicates that China has mastered the key core technologies of the medium-speed Maglev, and has realized a full-speed series of vehicle and system technologies within the Maglev line. Maglev technology innovation and manufacturing continue to be at the forefront of international high-speed train development.

The research and development (R&D) of commercial Maglev Version 3.0 trains and systems is a demonstration of the results attained through the national “13th Five-Year Plan” and the key R&D plan “Key Technology Research on Medium-speed Maglev Transportation” carried out by CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. Tongji University’s Maglev Transportation Engineering Technology Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Maglev Center") undertakes the overall research on medium-speed Maglev vehicles, electromagnet technical research, and non-contact induction power supply research. It also undertakes research on vehicle-rail coupling vibration mechanism and suspension system vibration suppression technology, the optimization of traction system power supply technology, the matching of vehicle and linear and track structure parameters, key technology of turnout, as well as research of nine key sub-tasks, including overall system integration.
The breakthrough of a new technology, the establishment of a new system, and systematic testing for performance evaluation, optimization and improvement are exciting developments. To this end, in July 2019, CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. and CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Co., Ltd. signed an agreement on "Joint Development of Long Stator Linear Motor Drive Maglev Transportation System" with Tongji University in July 2019. The Test Platform Cooperation Framework Agreement relies on the 1.5-kilometer-long Maglev test line and system of Tongji University so as to prepare for the functional test of the whole system and to transform and develop the test equipment. By the end of 2020, the Maglev Center completed the transformation of the new-generation traction power supply system. The commercial Maglev Version 3.0 Train arrived at the high-speed Maglev test line of Tongji University Jiading Campus in January 2021, marking the beginning of the Maglev tests. The Maglev Center gives full support, through the system advantages, towards operating and maintaining the high-speed Maglev test line. By ensuring that the system status of the line track, the turnout system and equipment along the line meet its commissioning and testing requirements, the Center also expresses multi-disciplinary advantages and support to new research and development traction, operation control and vehicle system equipment, etc. This allows it to conduct joint debugging tests to verify the parameters and indicators of the Maglev vehicle and its system at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
In addition, with regard to the engineering application of the whole system, the Maglev Center has raised various resources to carry out research on the relationship between Maglev vehicles and rails. It designed and implemented modal tests of various track structures and undertook comprehensive tests of vehicle dynamic responses under various working conditions. At the same time, combined with the characteristics of Maglev traffic, the intelligent monitoring of the service performance of the Maglev track structure and its impact on the environment was carried out. Furthermore, the automatic monitoring of the service performance of the Maglev system track structure was initially realized.
On the basis of the current one end car + one CRRC, CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. will continue to carry out a 200-kilometer medium-speed Maglev train marshalling test on the Maglev test line of Tongji University Jiading Campus. The Maglev Center will complete the engineering design method and simulation of the traction system, the technical analysis and simulation calculation of the short-circuit coil, and the technical analysis of the stator phase sequence according to the system test plan formulated on the basis of the final overall system design and key technology research. The Center will also carry out the evaluation of superimposed track beam type scheme, technical scheme and specification research of engineered turnout, vehicle vibration test research, system technical condition research, system integration and system joint debugging and joint testing research, system design specification research and vehicle general technical condition research, etc. It will also promote the engineering of medium-speed Maglev transportation systems.
Between the commercial Maglev version 1.0 train, with a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and the commercial Maglev version 3.0 train, with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour, China's independent Maglev technology has undergone several updates and iterations over the past ten years. The Maglev Center confirmed that it will continue to make use of the technology that was progressively acquired in the field of high-speed Maglev test lines and medium and low-speed Maglev fields over the past 20 years, to actively support the country's major strategies and serve the needs of the industry, and make new and greater efforts for Tongji people to accelerate the construction of a "transportation power country".
