Tongji people take immediate action on the millennium plan
It is a millennium plan to develop Xiong’an New Area. In the past five years since its establishment, Tongji University has answered the call of the general secretary Xi Jinping and sent professors to Xiong’an. Planning, design and supervision institutes have set up their branches in Xiong’an. "At present, the total number of Tongji engineering and technical personnel in Xiong’an exceeds 600." said a Tongji leader. Since 2018, The University Party Secretary Fang Shouen and President Chen Jie have led heads of various departments of the university to Xiong’an for proper understanding of the local situation and all-round cooperation.
"At the beginning of the establishment of Xiong’an New Area, Tongji people who are well-experienced and have undertaken various urgent and difficult planning tasks since the new century were sent to Xiong’an to form a special team for Xiong’an planning and drawing of the planning blueprint." Zhou Jian, President of Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning and Design Institute, introduced that Xiong’an Intelligent Planning and Design Institute was established in January 2018 to implement the planning and participate in the planning and preparation of Xiong’an New Area, It has successively completed the control planning and urban design of Rongdong District, Rongcheng Group, the style and architectural design of blocks in Rongdong District, the research on the comprehensive implementation planning of regional functions and major infrastructure in Baiyangdian District, the special planning of green land system in Rongdong District, the special planning of comprehensive transportation in Rongdong District, and the planning of environmental improvement and overall style improvement of Shaozhuangzi Village in addition to over 20 urban designs, styles, control regulations and special projects.

"We tried very hard to do our work based on one blueprint from beginning to the end!" Zhou Jian said that Rongdong District is in the east area of Rongcheng Group in the "one main and five auxiliary structure" of Xiong’an New Area, with a planned land area of 12.70 square kilometers. We analysed the macro, meso and micro layout and construction strategies in detail. Now, the basic construction of the relocation project in Rongdong District was completed; the resettled population has been successfully relocated; the market-oriented projects in the area all started in 2021, and the whole area will be completed in 2023. Thanks to the hard work of our people, the regulatory detailed planning of Rongdong District won a first prize of excellent urban planning and design of Hebei Province in 2019.
Interpretation of the Urban Living Room design
Shaozhuangzi Village is an ancient small village in Baiyangdian, Xiong’an. How to build it into a demonstration village of "revitalization of Dianqu District"? Liu Xiao, a creative chief designer of village planning and the head of the team of Qiming Young Planners of Tongji Planning Institute, introduced that an optimized planning of Shaozhuangzi was proposed under the supervision of leaders of Tongji University, with people from urban and rural planning taking the lead and integration of various disciplines. The team put forward an overall concept of Dianbo life community, built an ecological system, incorporated the relationships between man and nature, village and Dianbo, local and non-local residents into the overall ecological framework. The planning put the sustainable development of the village in the core, continued the endogenous development of the village, maintained the village autonomous community and enhanced the output of the village's values. The team decided to make village known for Dianbo habitat, fashion and new water town. The overall goal of the plan is to explore the "national model of Rural Revitalization" in the era of ecological civilization and build a "future rural smart community" supported by smart technology. The plan has been put into practice, and the village renovation and project construction have been completed.
Make a range of designs by joining hands with design teams
"Since the establishment of Xiong’an New Area, our institute has attached great importance to it. Under the leadership of the institute’s Party committee, we have established a joint design team formed by capable people from multiple departments and participate in various design tasks." According to Tang Shuoling, party secretary and President of Architectural Design and Research Institute (ADARI) of Tongji University, since entering the Xiong’an in July 2017, ADARI has undertaken a large number of projects including the urban architectural style design of Rongdong District in Xiong’an New Area, the architectural style design of some cities in Qibu District, the resettlement apartments and their supporting facilities project of Unit E in Rongdong District, the resettlement apartments and their supporting facilities project of Unit C in Rongxi District, the housing project for Rongdong Operation, Maintenance and Marketing Service Center of the State Grid Hebei Electric Power Company, Rongdong Sports Center and Sports Hall project, Rongdong District No. 1 Land of Xiong’an Dianjian Zhihui City project, Xiong’an new area headquarters building construction project of China Satellite Network Group Co., Ltd.. The total design area of the projects under construction is nearly 5 million square meters.
A thank-you letter from the Management Committee of Xiong’an New Area to Tongji University reads, "it shows not only the outstanding professional quality of Tongji designers and the spirit of fighting against difficulties, but your strong technical skills and outstanding design level of ADARI." quoting several important architectural design projects. Tang said that in the face of such a huge amount of design tasks, they took full advantages of the university's expertise, and gathered together professionals from different background for joint operations along the lines of planning, architecture, prefabrication, green building, intelligence, sponge city to indoor decoration. Guided by the design concept of being green, low-carbon, smart and livable, the design team followed the design principles characterized by integration of national features with modern and local styles. They drew inspirations from nature and humanities to reflect an overall urban outlook of "combination of Chinese and western styes with focus on Chinese elements while marrying the ancient with the modern" through change in architectural forms, harmony in colors and variation in space.
On-site consultation
With the progress of moving to Xiong’an units that undertake work that may be realized outside the capital of China, ADARI undertook the design of the construction project of the Xiong’an headquarters building of China Satellite Network Group Co., Ltd., the first central enterprise headquarters in Xiong’an New Area. The total construction area of the project is 120,000 square meters. Based on a design concept of "blooming Xiong’an", they intend to build a 4.0+ smart office headquarters for the future. "At the same time, ADARI will continue to pay attention to and participate in the design work of other central enterprises as well as colleges and universities. We are prepared and will devote ourselves to the future construction tasks of Xiong’an New Area with great enthusiasm," Tang said.
Whole process follow-up and whole chain service in engineering consultation
Shanghai Tongji Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. has been involved in the construction of Xiong’an New Area since August 2017. Tongji is taking action to build quality ecological environment
The construction of quality ecological environment in Xiong’an is in full swing. Since 2019, Professor Li Xiangning, Dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, has led a project to collect designs for ecological flood dike and post station buildings in Qibu District of the New Area as the chief planner and design coordinator. He put forward the overall planning concept of "Xiong’an necklace", and invited more than 10 well-known young and middle-aged architects at home and abroad to participate in the architectural design of more than 30 courier stations on the ecological dike to create a landscape infrastructure and architectural cultural image with "Chinese style, lake scenery and innovative fashion".

"The scheme design of Baiyangdian Eco-Technology Exhibition Hall and Courier Stations as well as Xiazhi, Yinshen and Chenhe Courier Stations of Xin'an North Dike have been completed. Among them, the Eco-technology Exhibition Hall and the three courier stations on the Baiyangdian Bank have been completed and put into use," said Li Xiangning. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, China has overcome the adverse effects of the pandemic and has organized the "Xiong’ an architectural design competition with Chinese characteristics" to achieve high-quality development. At the same time, he led the project team composed of young designers to work day and night, and completed the design of the Builder's Home in Miangang District of Xiong'an New Area by exploring new strategies and ways for high-quality and rapid construction of units. "In this way, under the epidemic, our builders in various districts of Xiong'an New Area will have cozy and pleasing places for relaxation.
