Monograph on development of luminescence responsive chemical sensors by Professor YAN Bing published in English

June 19, 2022

Recently, the monograph Rare Earth Metal-Organic Framework Hybrid Materials for Luminescence Responsive Chemical Sensors written by Professor YAN Bing with the School of Chemical Science and Engineering, Tongji University, was published in English by Elsevier. The monograph does a comprehensive review of the latest research progress of luminescence responsive chemical sensors of rare earth MOFs hybrid materials. This is the second monograph in English by Professor YAN Bing following his first one on luminescence functional rare earth hydroid materials published by Springer in 2017.

The monograph gives a systematic introduction of research development in rare earth metal-organic framework hybrid materials for luminescence responsive chemical sensors. The 538-page monograph is composed of 15 chapters in 6 parts. The first part introduces rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials, with Chapter 1 "metal organic framework, rare earth metal organic framework and rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials", and Chapter 2 "rare earth luminescence, metal organic framework luminescence, rare earth metal organic hybrid materials luminescence and light response and chemical sensing". The second part elaborates on the light response mode and sensing mechanism of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials, which includes Chapter 3 "single light response mode chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic hybrid materials", Chapter 4 "single light response mode ratio chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic hybrid materials", and Chapter 5 "light response chemical sensing mechanism of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials". The third part is about the light response chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to typical ion species analytes, including Chapter 6 "light response chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to metal ion species (I)", Chapter 7 "light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to metal ion species (II)", and Chapter 8 "light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to anion species". The fourth part introduces the light response chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to typical molecular species analytes, with Chapter 9 "light response chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to general molecular species", Chapter 10 "light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to special molecular species", and Chapter 11 "light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to biomarkers". The fifth part covers the light responsive chemical sensing and its applications of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials in other aspects, including Chapter 12 "light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials to temperature and pH", Chapter 13 "molecular logic gate operation of light responsive chemical sensing of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials", and Chapter 14 "light responsive chemical sensing imaging of biological analytes and markers of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials". The sixth part which consists of Chapter 15 concludes prospects of luminescence responsive chemical sensors of rare earth metal organic framework hybrid materials.

Nearly 1000 papers were cited in this monograph. In addition to the introductory literature in this field, there are nearly 500 papers directly related to the luminescence response chemical sensors of rare earth metal-organic framework hybrid materials, including more than 130 research papers by Professor YAN Bing's research group.

YAN has been engaged in the research of optical functional rare earth hybrid materials and micro nano solids since he became a professor of Tongji University in November 2001. Since 2012, YAN has focused his research on the assembly of rare earth functionalized crystalline organic framework hybrid materials and the luminescence responsive chemistry. After 10 years of research, he has achieved remarkable results and became one of influential scholars in this field. His research group has published more than 180 research papers in this field in international journals. This newly published monograph summarizes the research of YAN's research group in the past decade.
