Two robot football teams from Tongji appeared at the Artificial Intelligence Experience Zone of the China International Import Expo (CIIE)
In the AI Experience Zone, a newly added zone at the 5th CIIE this year, two robot football teams showed their skills and played demo football matches. Robots that act completely autonomously can attack and defend independently, and fall and climb up again, attracting people to stop and watch the game and arousing Central China Television's (CCTV) attention. These two football teams are from TJArk (Tongji Ark) team of Tongji University.

The TJArk team of Tongji University comes from the Innovation Base of the College of Electronic and Information Engineering and is directed by Professor CHEN Qijun and Professor LIU Chengju. TJArk has inherited and developed a good atmosphere for both learning and research. Teachers and students learn from each other and make progress together. They have achieved outstanding research results. For example, the team won the championship in the Standard Platform Group Competition of RoboCup China Robot World Cup for 9 consecutive years and took third place in RoboCup Robot World Cup Standard Platform Group International in 2018, the best result even won by a Chinese team in robot contest in the world. In recognition of TJArk's contribution to the development of robotics and talent cultivation in China, TJArk was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award" by the China Automation Society and the Teaching Steering Committee of Automation Major in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education in 2019.

Continue to provide first-class precision positioning and digital navigation services for CIIE
How can you find your favorite booth and understand the exhibits efficiently when you are in a huge exhibition hall? At the CIIE, the official digital intelligent navigation system known as Guide, a high-tech exhibition artifact independently developed by Tongji University, continued to show its power this year, providing visitors with accurate positioning and quick directions and bringing an immersive exhibition experience.

Digital guide service
Since 2016, LIU Erwu, director of the Positioning and Navigation Laboratory of Tongji University and professor of the College of Electronic and Information Engineering, focuses his research on DWELT algorithm (Dynamic Weighted Evolution Path Tracking Technology), an internationally leading high-precision indoor positioning technology developed independently by him. The world's first positioning and navigation system for super-large venues has been developed and continuously upgraded. It provided first-class digital navigation services and effective technical support for the four CIIEs in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The total number of service trips for the four years has exceeded 500,000, which has strongly promoted the development of the indoor location service industry.
In March 2021, Tongji University and Wentai Technology established Tongji University-Wentai Science and Technology Spatial Information Joint Laboratory. Drawing on Tongji University's internationally leading indoor positioning algorithm and Wentai Technology's rich experience in research and development of mobile phone systems and semiconductor hardcore technology, the lab worked together to build the world's first indoor Beidou positioning and navigation system for mobile phones, and successfully launch a series of products and standards at the 4th CIIE in 2021. This system effectively fills the technical gap that satellite positioning cannot be used indoors, and is a major technological innovation of Beidou system in China.
Professor LIU Eryu remarked that, on the one hand, the "Guide" system allows visitors to get a new exhibition experience through new generation digital technologies such as AI, blockchain, virtual reality, Internet of Things, and digital twins; On the other hand, it can relieve the pressure of on-site service personnel and exhibitors to cope with a large number of inquiry services, and transform "passive inquiry service" into "active inquiry" and "abstract guidance" into "image display,” thus reflecting the first-class software and hardware service level of CIIE.
