On November 14, the annual meeting of the UN Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) 2022, hosted by UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), opened online. CHANG Qide, the UN coordinator in China, Steven Stone, deputy director of the Economic Department of UNEP, and LV Peiming, executive vice president of Tongji University attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
The meeting is an important milestone for promoting green economy after the new round of cooperation between Tongji University and the United Nations. It focused on "inclusive green economic transformation" by exploring pollution reduction and carbon reduction. Presentations were delivered by over 40 experts from the UNEP, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecological Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Humen Government, Yale University, Qinghua University, Fudan University, China University of Petroleum, Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences, and the China Textile Industry Federation. Participants at the meeting were from countries and regions covering Africa, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region including Bangladesh, Cameroon, China, Colombia, Guinea, India, Kenya, Leone, Mexico, Sierra, Switzerland, the United States, and Zambia.
Mr. CHANG Qide said: "In order to accelerate China's transition to a people-oriented, inclusive, low-carbon, and circular economy, we will support China in promoting green industry, assist the government in promoting the development and creation of new green industries, and implement interventions supported by the UN at the policy, institutional and enterprise levels. We will encourage clean and sustainable production, promote the use of renewable, low-carbon, and off-grid energy solutions in rural areas, and improve the energy efficiency of industrial production and public buildings as well as advocate the inclusion of climate change mitigation, sustainable consumption, and environmental protection into formal curricula and informal education." Based upon his years of work experience in China, he thanked Tongji University for its efforts in promoting the UN sustainable development goals, affirmed IESD's efforts in sustainable development, and hoped to further deepen the cooperation between the UN agencies and Tongji University to promote global common development.

As the core figure of PAGE, he congratulated PAGE China on its achievements and hoped that this week-long meeting would bring all parties together to inject new impetus into the momentum of China's green economy transformation.

LV Peiming clarified Tongji University's firm belief in promoting the cause of sustainable development. As an international platform jointly launched by Tongji University and UNEP, IESD has made remarkable achievements in education, research, and international cooperation. He thanked UNEP for providing guidance and support for the development of IESD for a long time.
