Two projects of Tongji University win the SAIL Star award at the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference

September 04, 2023

As the highest award of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, the list of winners of the "Super AI Leader" (SAIL Award) was announced at the opening ceremony of the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference on July 6. Six projects won the honor of SAIL Star, among which Tongji University had two: Shanghai Jinding 'Smart City' CIMAI Platform Research and Creation project of Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. and Humanoid Robot Multimode Interaction project of Shanghai Independent Intelligent Unmanned System Science Center of Tongji University.

Academician WU Zhiqiang is the head of the project Shanghai Jinding 'Smart City' CIMAI Platform Research and Creation. He led the team to learn from the heterogeneous communities in real cities by training AI models, and asking AI to simulate the cultivation process of how a social community organizes, makes decisions, and acts, thus creatively surpassing the history of one brain for many years and opening up a multi-heterogeneous multi-brain cooperation model. The intelligent mode adopts a three-dimensional architecture, including the main brain, auxiliary brain, sub-brain, and telencephalon. Each system realizes information interaction on the same base, predicts the decision of other parties, and complements and cooperates with tall parties. Through the innovative practice of the multi-brain model in the Shanghai Jinding Project, it surpassed the first generation of the "urban brain" and the second generation of the SWARM homogeneous group intelligence model proposed by the team in 2007, and entered the third generation of smart city new model with multi-intelligence cooperation. This is the third time that the team has won this important honor after winning the award for Planning and Design of Shanghai Maqiao Artificial Intelligence Innovation Demonstration Zone in 2019 and Research and Creation of CIM Platform of Beijing City Sub-center in 2021.

wins SAIL STAR of 2023 SAIL AWARD

Professor HE Bin, the leader of the project Multimode Interaction of Humanoid Robot. The humanoid robot multi-mode interactive platform system has humanoid perception, cognition, and decision-making capabilities. It is equipped with TacSuit electronic skin tactile perception system including 305 modules (1220 sensors) and multi-degree-of-freedom interactive head-eye visual perception system, which breaks through the key technologies of humanoid robot's maximum tactile sensory organ function reproduction and massive heterogeneous data fusion and proposes a head-neck-eye coordinated bionic natural visual perception and interaction method based on visual dual-channel and attention mechanism, which enhances the multi-mode perception and bidirectional understanding of humanoid robot interaction process. Through distributed multi-point force position high-precision active following and natural voice interaction guided by visual-touch fusion, safe and compliant intimate interaction with people is realized, including hugging, handshaking, high-credibility approaching, and low-credibility avoidance, which breaks through the safety and trust problems of humanoid robots and greatly improves the intelligent interaction ability between robots and people. The results will lead forward the theory and technology related to humanoid robots and promote their applications as well as the rapid development of the industry.
