Recently, the Central Promotion Department of CPC issued a notice announcing the list of demonstration projects of the National Culture, Science, Technology, and Health "Going Rural" activities in 2022. A total of 100 demonstration projects were selected nationwide, among which three projects in Shanghai were selected for the demonstration projects. Tongji University is the only university selected in Shanghai at this time. The demonstration project is called "Cultivation Action of Local Culture Inheritors of Beautiful Homesickness of Tongji University Youth League Committee".
In 2013, the Youth League Committee of Tongji University launched the "Beautiful Homesickness" local culture inheritor cultivation action, taking Yunlong County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province as the target of cultivation. The action lasted for ten years, during which Tongji student practice teams went to local schools for teaching. They also organized a series of activities including "local culture innovation camps" for rural youth, a "water source plan" for rural teachers, and "ripple action" for returning youth. Over the years, a Tongji model characterized by "rural revitalization with local culture education" has gradually been formed. This model has been extended to more rural areas through a local education toolkit made by Tongji teachers and students, which succeeded in training rural successors who "know, love, build and keep the countryside". They have grown into a team of cultural inheritors of nearly 100 rural teachers, over 1,000 rural teenagers, and nearly 2,000 returning youths, which motivated rural people for rural revitalization.
Through cultivating "people who love their hometowns", Tongji University's "Beautiful Homesickness" project motivates the revitalization of rural culture. In the past ten years, hundreds of Tongji teachers and students came to Yunlong County, Yunnan Province. They studied the local culture and helped the local people realize the transformation from "blood transfusion" to "hematopoiesis" by establishing platforms, building teams, and creating courses to promote a virtuous circle of rural education revitalization. In the future, Tongji University will continue to draw on its multidisciplinary advantages, give full play to the empowering role of talents, resources, and platforms in Yunlong County's basic education, join hands with Yunlong to create a sample of rural education and continue to contribute Tongji's Wisdom for promotion of rural revitalization.
