LIANG Wenhao

LIANG Wenhao, a distinguished Chinese tunnel and underground engineering expert, is currently deputy director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory for Information Technology in Rail Transit Engineering. He served as deputy chief engineer of China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., deputy chief engineer of China Railway Construction Co., Ltd., and director of Tunnel and Underground Engineering Committee of China Civil Engineering Society. He was elected member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2005.

LIANG has been engaged in professional and technical work for half a century, a pioneering figure that is still active at the forefront of the tunnel and underground engineering construction in China. He has presided over the survey and design of dozens of railway tunnels such as Houyue Railway, Xikang Railway, and Qinghai-Tibet Railway. He has also completed the planning, scheme research, and design of a number of large and complex projects in the fields of highway, water conservancy, and subway tunnels. He has made outstanding contributions in the fields of tunnel construction in long tunnels crossing mountains in complex mountain areas, high and cold plateaus, collapsible loess, sandstorm, and other special geological conditions and TBM construction technology.

LIANG presided over the investigation and design work of the loess tunnel of Baolan Railway, Baozhong Railway, Shenyan Railway, shallow sand tunnel of Shenshuo Railway, Fenghuoshan tunnel in the plateau permafrost region of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Kunlun mountain tunnel, and other tunnel projects with special geological conditions. By tackling many technical problems, he has made great contributions to the technical system of tunnel construction in China. He has won the 6th Zhan Tianyou Achievement Award. The Qinling Extra-long Railway Tunnel, which he presided over the survey and design, won the 3rd Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Award and First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. He was awarded the title of National Survey and Design Master in 2004.
